AUSTEMPERING

Austempering is provided using a continuous shaker hearth furnace which can process components up to 4mm thickness made from an appropriate steel (e.g. CS70).

 

A hard,ductile and strong condition is produced using this process.

 

Typical products are clips, spring washers and tolerance rings.

 

Components are heated to the hardening temperature under protective atmosphere then cooled in molten salt controlled at the appropriate temperature to give the desired properties.

 

An on-line rinsing and drying operation is used prior to any oiling protection that may be required.
